Overview
Many young people maintain that they carry knives for protection. However it could be argued that carrying knives for protection makes it more likely that you will be hurt yourself. This begs the question, why do young people feel that they need to protect themselves. In this lesson you will be introduced to some of the reasons why young people themselves do not feel protected in today’s society. You will be studying the roles of police, educators and youth workers in relation to violence and knife crime. The lesson offers suggestions of how as a society there could be a more integrated way of protecting young people and eliminating the need to carry knives for protection.
