Operation Sceptre
Numerous police forces across the country have been involved in Operation Sceptre recently with the objective to reduce knife crime in their areas.
What is Operation Sceptre?
Operation Sceptre is a national police campaign that takes place twice a year to tackle knife crime: Its goal is to keep people safe from knife crime and raise awareness of this horrendous issue.
Typical Activities can Include:
- High visibility patrols
- Promoting Forever Amnesty bins for safe and anonymous disposal of knives
- Working with schools, colleges, and youth groups to educate young people
- Weapons sweeps
- Staffing knife arches at locations to detect and deter people from carrying knives
- Knife surrender events
- Safety talks
- Working with partner organisations
This initiative is fantastic and has resulted so far in removing almost 10,000 knives from the streets in addition to helping to inform and educate people on the dangers of knife crime.
Knife Crime Matters is now seeking to work with the various police forces on this initiative with a view to helping raise awareness of knife crime in young people all year round.
We are constantly reviewing and developing our range of educational resources with a view to enabling all children in the UK to understand exactly what knife crime is and how to avoid becoming involved in such a dangerous situation.
