Knife Crime Matters Unveils First of Two Murals in Stoke-on-Trent at The Yard, Meir
Date: 1st November 2025
A monumental step in the ongoing fight against youth violence was taken on Friday, October 31st, 2025, as Knife Crime Matters UK proudly unveiled the first of two major community murals at The Yard in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, in partnership with the Stoke City FC Foundation and In2Health and Wellbeing.
This powerful new artwork instantly transforms a prominent community space, turning a passive wall into an active, inspiring statement against carrying a knife. The mural serves as a constant, visible reminder of hope and the community’s unified commitment to protecting its young people.
A Visible, Permanent Commitment to Safety
The unveiling event, attended by local community leaders, youth advocates, and residents, alongside representatives from the Stoke City FC Foundation and In2Health and Wellbeing, marked the launch of this key component of our two-part initiative in Meir. This first mural is designed to be highly engaging and culturally resonant, using art to communicate where words often fail.
The decision to place the mural at The Yard recognizes the location’s importance as a local hub, ensuring maximum visibility for the anti-violence message. The artwork stands as a beacon of safety, encouraging dialogue and positive choices among the age group most at risk.
More Than Just Art: A Dual Approach
While the mural provides essential visible advocacy, it works hand-in-hand with our foundational mission:
- Educational Resources: Funds generated or released by these mural projects, and the vital support from partners, directly support the free distribution of our KS3/4 ‘Understanding Knife Crime and Making Safer Choices’ educational package to local secondary schools.
- Community Unity: It provides a tangible focal point for anti-violence discussions, reinforcing the message being delivered in classrooms and community centers.
What’s Next: Mural Two and Continued Education
We are now actively planning the location and design for the second community mural at the Potteries, which will further solidify our presence and commitment in the area. We encourage the entire community to visit The Yard to view the completed artwork and join us in championing this crucial mission.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our partners—especially the Stoke City FC Foundation and In2Health and Wellbeing—and local volunteers who helped make this first significant unveiling a reality. Your support ensures we can continue to deliver both high-impact visible assets and life-saving educational tools where they are needed most.
