The Knife Crime Matters campaign is proud to announce the successful unveiling of its powerful new mural at West Wythenshawe Boxing Club. The event took place on Friday, 28th March 2025, marking a significant step in raising awareness about the dangers of knife crime and the importance of educating young people on making positive choices.
Originally set to be unveiled by local MP Mike Kane, the event saw a last-minute change as Councillor Dave Marsh stepped in to perform the honours due to Mr. Kane having to attend to an urgent ministerial matter. We extend our sincere thanks to Councillor Marsh for his support and dedication to this crucial cause.
The mural serves as a visual reminder of the devastating impact of knife crime and is part of a wider initiative that includes the distribution of Knife Crime Matters educational resources to all secondary schools in the area. This initiative has been made possible with the incredible support of Eddie Bates from Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy, Jeannine Burke from Be Part Of Change, and Clive Smith and Andy Parry from West Wythenshawe Boxing Club, who were kind enough to host the mural after the Council and Wythenshawe Community Housing Group decided not to support allow the mural to be placed within the Civic Centre, in the heart of Wythenshawe.
The campaign would not be possible without the support of the local business community, and special thanks go to Morgan Sindall, Kenny Waste Management, Wythenshawe Dental Clinic, Chartrange, Beacon Fostering, 10Architect, and Duerrs. Their generosity and commitment to tackling knife crime have played a vital role in making this initiative a reality.
Knife Crime Matters will now begin delivering its range of educational materials into schools, ensuring that more young people can make better, more informed choices about knife and gang-related crime. The campaign seeks to actively reduce knife crime both now and in the future.
The event was a moment of unity, bringing together local leaders, educators, and young people to reinforce the message that knife crime can and must be tackled through awareness, education, and community action. By providing young people with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions, we can help create a safer future for everyone.
We thank everyone who attended and supported this initiative. The unveiling of the Knife Crime Matters mural is just the beginning – together, we can continue to spread awareness and make a real difference in our communities.
